Given the economic situation in Albania, the transition from education to work is difficult for young people. But it is even more difficult for Roma youth. They often do not finish school, are not encouraged by their families to pursue an education, and face discrimination. To have a chance on the labor market, these young people need extra support. And that is what the Empowerment Project offers.
COACHING IN SOCIAL AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Over a period of ten months, young people receive coaching and education. They discover their interests and possibilities, learn to work together, practice presenting, and work on their communication skills. In addition to group sessions, they explore the job market through company visits and an internship. This helps them develop personally, socially, and professionally. After this training, they can continue their studies, find a job, or start their own business.
C4EE – coaching towards education or work – is a project carried out by our partner organization Dorcas.

‘BETTER PREPARED FOR THE LABOR MARKET’
Xhoni (25) comes from a family with many (health) problems. His father died when Xhoni was still young. Xhoni had to provide a basic income for his mother and sister and as a result was unable to complete his vocational training. He worked as a seasonal worker or day laborer in Greece and Tirana. At the beginning of this year, he started the C4EE program for car mechanics. Twice a week, Xhoni attends training, where he learns practical skills as well as a lot about employee skills, job applications, collaboration, and entrepreneurship.
Xhoni: “This is an opportunity to enter the job market to be better prepared. If I successfully complete the project, I will receive all the tools I need to start working independently or at a garage. I am incredibly happy to have this opportunity, so that I can work closer to home and take care of my family.”
