For Roma children in Albania, it is not a given fact that they will have the opportunity to develop. Our partner Sajmir Brazhdi organizes after-school care specifically for them, offering homework assistance, a hot meal, and a safe refuge.
ROMA IN ALBANIA: DISCRIMINATED AGAINST AND EXCLUDED
The Roma community is one of the poorest groups of people in Albania. They are often discriminated against and excluded, which leads to social isolation. Most of them have no access to education, healthcare, or decent housing. People are often ill, illiteracy is high, and poor roads to schools and other facilities make it very difficult for children to escape poverty.
Afterschool project
For Roma children, education is the only way to escape a life of poverty and crime. The MozaikChurch in Lushnje aims to motivate Roma children to attend school by providing them with backpacks and school supplies. Furthermore, five days a week there is after-school care including a full meal—which they do not always receive at home—reading and math lessons, homework assistance, and various fun activities.
